“Pieces of a Woman”, is the new project of Cristina Russo. The project focuses on women and their diverse aspects or “pieces”; their fragilities and virtues. This projects draws us into a musical world of alternative sounds influenced by Russo’s varied and characterizing styles flanked by her trusted band NeoSoul Combo. “Cristina Russo & Neosoul Combo”, is the title that has been accompanying her projects and “live” performances around Italy for years now.
This new and passionate project would not have been possible without the artistic direction and musical arrangements of Marco Di Dio, whose expert hand and artistic flair are behind the success and works of other Sicilian artists in various fields: from Club Rivera to Andrea La Ferla.
“Pieces of a Woman,” released on vinyl (a touch of class and also trendy), offers urban traits in the new jazz world, perfectly in line with the neosoul style. There are also, however, some surprises such as musical nods to the ’80s that have influenced the rhythms and melodies in some tracks, like the song “Splendidi.”
The urban fusion sound that Cristina Russo and her band present in “Pieces of a Woman” is rhythmic without neglecting the refinement that characterizes much of their work. Cristina’s distinctive raspy and warm voice, in pure black soul style, lends itself to a more modern sound: the new jazz from across the ocean, where your feet can’t stop moving.
Cristina Russo and her band, as always, draw us into their alternative and hybrid world of music ; the passion for the so-called neo soul sound. Blending the different genres according to mood and creativity, their music incorporates “urban fusion”, “new jazz” and “new reggae”. Expressed with a very personal style, great charm and refinement the group gives their “best”, especially during live performances where the interaction between the artists and audience creates an energetic atmosphere.
