Matteo Paggi, a trombonist who plays with jazz icon Enrico Rava in the group “Fearless Five” and was winner of Top Jazz in 2025, presents his project GIRAFFE.

Symbolically, the giraffe represents “foresight”: with its head far from its heart, its mind is free to fly. Simultaneously the fire, that is the passion, residing in its chest is free to ignite without obstacles.

Matteo uses this concept to realize the band’s performance which alternates between intellectually written pieces that require fire, passion, and dynamism to be played and “instant composing” improvisations involving a significant use of electronics and a more ambient atmosphere.

Matteo’s goal is to make contemporary music vibrant and intriguing for anyone who happens to pass by.

The music offers deeply rooted storytelling that unites rather than categorizing.

Winners of the I-Jazz “Next Jazz Generation 2025” award, their first album for Jam/Unjam in 2025 was released and distributed by Universal.

The group is recently back from an international tour that saw them on many European stages, including: GrachtenFestval, JazzMi, Contratempo Jazz&Wine, Laren Jazz, Casa del Jazz, Getxo Jazz Festival, Macerata Jazz, Pisa Jazz, Jazz on the Road, Padova Jazz, Klub Stala, Jazz i Halmstad, Aviles 50/50 Jazz and Poetry and others.
